Who made doctors Gods?

I have often wondered why we put so much into what doctors say. I believe that they are making guesses much of the time, okay educated guesses, but guesses just the same.
Don’t get me wrong, I am very grateful to the doctors who saved Jonathan’s life. But I still wonder about doctors. Jonathan’s doctors don’t all agree on what caused Jonathan to go knocking on deaths door. Saying conflicting things. Nor do they all agree on exactly what he should do with his life.

I brought a neighbor home from her two week stay at the hospital. Where they never got to the test that they had admitted her for, heart’s not strong enough. Why could she not wait that out at home like she is now? She was sent home with TWENTY ONE!, TWENTY ONE! medications!? And she has a drawer full of medications as well. I am, (along with the other neighbor, Jody, who came with me to pick up the other) in total shock. Are you sure the doctors are not giving you meds that will counteract one another? The first neighbor just smiles and shrugs her shoulders, she does not know. This women is always sick with the same things and never seems to get better. The second neighbor, Jody, tells me her mother is also always sick, but with different illnesses. One time they were trying to figure out why her mother was hallucinating, and other not so wonderful things. The doctorS had put her on a double dose of the same med.

Kind of a funny story that makes you wonder what the medical field is thinking?
A friend was telling me that her mother takes some medication to help her sleep. Now she does crazy stuff when she is sleeping. One time the family wakes up and there are all the fixings to make milkshakes spread out all over the kitchen, ice cream cartons melted. The mom starts scolding her son telling him he could at least clean up after himself when he gets a midnight snack. His response was “Mom look at yourself”. She had chocolate and what not all over her clothes. They counted six glasses that had had milkshakes in them. The mom has absolutely no recollection of this what so ever.

A tragic story:
My good friend went back home to Kentucky this past spring after her brother had been diagnosed with cancer. When she got there he was shaking as if he had Parkinson disease. She called the doctorS and asked what each of his medications were for. She took away the meds that were for pain, since he was not in pain. The shaking stopped within a couple of days. And he felt better overall.
She returned to Kentucky yesterday, so that the family could say their goodbyes to this brother, as they pull the plug on his life support machine. Not because he is dying from the cancer, no that is pretty much cured. He is dying because he was given a blood transfusion that was tainted with hepatitis. How do we, the patient, know if blood is contaminated or not?

I have another friend, 80 years old, who does not have a lot of faith in doctors. I have seen her fall and break her arm, refused to go to the doctor. Took care of things herself, and did so very well. No cast, no reduction in movement of the arm.
She should have a bit more faith in doctors. Almost two years ago she started complaining of pains in her stomach. Slowly eliminating this food and that food. Until she was basically not eating at all. Turns out that she had a cancerous tumor in her stomach, which was removed. So yes she should have some faith in doctors. After the surgery she turned down chemo, she turned to a holistic treatment of wheat grass. Amazing what she does with that wheat grass. She is also on a raw diet, which I am not positive is the best thing. But she is up and around, looking as good as she did two years ago, before she got sick.

I guess we need to consult with doctors and learn about what is wrong when we are ill. Work with the doctors, and do our own research. And ask questions! And not be afraid of alternative medicine.
